Biography of J. N. Reddy / Биография Д. Н. Редди

Professor Reddy is the holder of the Oscar S. Wyatt Endowed Chair in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is the author of numerous journal papers and text books on theoretical formulations and finite-element analysis of problems in solid and structural mechanics (plates and shells). The shear deformation plate and shell theories that he developed and bear his name in the literature are have been implemented into commercial software like ABAQUS, NISA, and HYPERFORM.

Professor Reddy has taught 90 short courses on linear and nonlinear finite elements, composite materials. He advised 32 postdoctoral fellows and research visitors and over 105 graduate students (60 Ph.D. and 45 M.S. students). Professor Reddy earned numerous national and international awards, including the Charles Russ Richards Memorial Award and the Worcester Reed Warner Medal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Nathan M. Newmark Medal and Raymond Mindlin Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers; Award for Excellence in the Field of Composites and Distinguished Research Award from the American Society for Composites, and the Computational Solid Mechanics award from US Association for Computational Mechanics.

Professor Reddy is one of the selective researchers in engineering around world who is recognized by ISI Highly Cited Researchers with over 15,000 citations (without self-citations over 12,000) with h-index of over 58 as per Web of Science, 2013; as per Google Scholar the number of citations is over 39,000 and h-index is 77. Professor Reddy has had profound influence on the careers of many students and young researchers who came in contact with him during his professional career (not only as students and collaborators but also as participants in his short courses, workshops and seminars).
