Recap – Gardener

In Episode 3, Detective Bossley interviewed Oliver Hummingbird. Cynthia’s grandson discussed the difficulties of  breaking free from Hummingbird Manor. His mother is always bugging him to get a job. According to Oliver this is easier said than done. People think he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Oliver is having girl troubles too.

He talked to the detective about his sister Emma, a.k.a Miss Perfect. Detective Bossley is surprised to learn that Emma doesn’t have any close friends. It seems money is standing in Oliver’s way. Let’s find out if the gardener thinks Cynthia’s grandson is the thief.

Did You Know?

The abbreviation a.k.a stands for also known as. In speech, you will often hear English speakers using this short form by saying the three letters out loud. FBI is also used in this way. This is not the case with acronyms, such as btw (by the way ). These short forms are saved for text. When you read BTW out loud you say “by the way”.

Detective:Thanks for agreeing to do this interview.
Gardener: No problem, Detective. I loved your show.
Detective: Thanks. Listen, were you here in your room the evening the ring disappeared?
Gardener: No, I was in the office helping Oliver work on his resume.
Detective: Can you describe your relationship with Oliver?
Gardener: Oh, he’s a good kid. He wears his heart on his sleeve . Not like Patsy. She’s itching to see the world, but instead she goes and gets engaged.
Detective: Let’s get back to Oliver. What’s his passion? He seems a bit down in the dumps .
Gardener: Oliver loves to make family movies. He used to film his grandfather cooking every day. These days he can’t even get near the kitchen.
Detective: Why, does the chef have something to hide?
Gardener: Chef James is so full of himself. He probably thinks Oliver will steal his recipes. Between you and me, Chef James is a lousy cook.
Detective: Oh, really? How did he land a job at this house then?
Gardener: I think Cynthia has a crush on him. He looks a bit like her late husband. She can’t cope without a man at her side.
Detective: And you know what a crush looks like. Is this from personal experience?
Gardener: You could say I’ve been chasing a certain someone for a while. She’s out of my league , though.
Detective: It’s probably none of my business , but…
Gardener: Fat chance I’m telling you about my love life! The only one I trust with my secrets around here is Maria.
Detective: You mean the housekeeper, right?
 Gardener: More like house angel.
Detective: She’s the next person I’ll be questioning.
Gardener: Don’t waste your time. That woman doesn’t have a guilty bone in her body.
