World Teachers’ Day

Who has the most important job in the world? Is it the president of your country? Is it the doctor who delivered you? What about your mom or dad? Some say that a teacher deserves this title. A single teacher can influence hundreds of children in a lifetime.

A dedicated teacher can inspire you to find your passion . As a Japanese proverb wisely says, “Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.” Good teachers offer much more than academic instruction. They act as role models and help students develop life skills needed in adulthood. Teachers often spend more time with children than parents do. In 1994, UNESCO declared October 5th as World Teachers’ Day. People in over 100 countries honor teachers on this day. Those who are born to teach thrive on their students’ improvement. A child’s “aha” or “I get it now!” is music to a teacher’s ears.

Most teachers do not expect expensive gifts on Teachers’ Day. A kind letter or craft that expresses what your teacher means to you is more than enough. You could also write a tribute in a blog or school newsletter. Unfortunately, in some countries, Teachers’ Day has turned into a gift-giving competition. Parents should never feel obliged to buy an expensive gift for their child’s teacher.
